Description
Deco Granite (Decomposed Granite)
Create a natural, compacted surface with Deco Granite, a versatile material designed for pathways, driveways, courtyards and decorative landscaping applications.
Also known as decomposed granite, this finely crushed material features a warm, natural tan colour and a mix of fines and small particles that allow it to compact tightly while maintaining a natural appearance.
Combining durability with visual appeal, Deco Granite is a popular choice for projects requiring a firm surface with a softer, more organic finish than concrete or paving.
Key Features & Benefits
Compacts to a firm surface — Fine particles bind together to create a stable, walkable finish.
Natural decorative appearance — Warm, earthy tones provide a soft, organic look ideal for landscaping.
Permeable surface — Allows water to drain through, helping reduce runoff and pooling.
Cost-effective alternative to concrete — Ideal for covering larger areas without the cost of hard paving.
Versatile application — Suitable for both residential and commercial landscaping projects.
What It’s Used For
Pathways & Walkways — Creates a firm, natural-looking surface for foot traffic.
Driveways & Access Areas — Suitable for light vehicle use when properly installed and compacted.
Courtyards & Outdoor Areas — Ideal for decorative, low-maintenance surfaces.
Around Pavers & Stepping Stones — Perfect for filling gaps and creating a seamless finish.
Stabilising Guide (Optional but Recommended)
Deco Granite can be used loose, or stabilised for a stronger, longer-lasting surface.
As a general guide:
- Mix approximately 1 part cement to 8 parts Deco Granite for stabilised applications
- For pedestrian areas, use around 1 bag of cement per tonne
- For driveways or higher traffic areas, use 2 bags per tonne
Stabilising helps create a firmer, more durable surface while still maintaining a natural look.
Why It Performs Well
Deco Granite contains a mix of fine particles and crushed stone, allowing it to:
- Compact tightly into a stable surface
- Maintain a natural, textured finish
- Provide good drainage while remaining firm
- Blend seamlessly into landscape designs
This makes it ideal for projects where appearance and function need to work together.
Important Product Characteristics
Fine crushed granite material — Compacts firmly but remains more natural than concrete or paving.
Can loosen over time if unstabilised — High-traffic areas benefit from stabilising with cement.
Natural variation in colour and texture — Product may vary between batches.
Not a structural base — For heavy loads, a road base layer underneath is recommended.
Installation Tips
- Install over a compacted road base for best results
- Apply at a depth of 50–100mm depending on application
- Lightly wet and compact thoroughly
- Stabilise with cement for driveways or high-traffic areas
